Ann Herrera, LMSW | Therapist

Currently accepting clients.

Ann (she/her) is a Licensed Independent Social Worker who is passionate about helping children, adolescents, adults and families navigate life’s challenges with greater confidence, flexibility and self-compassion. She believes therapy is most effective when clients and families feel understood, supported and empowered to be active participants in the therapeutic process.

Ann earned her undergraduate degree from Iowa State University and her Master’s Degree in Social Work from St. Ambrose University. She has experience in pre-K-12 schools, psychiatric inpatient hospitalization and therapeutic day treatment programs, supporting individuals and families experiencing anxiety, depression, behavioral and emotional concerns, developmental disabilities and other mental health challenges.

Ann has a specialized interest in working with children and families affected by ARFID, restrictive eating disorders and anorexia nervosa. She has specific training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (CBT-AR) and experience utilizing Family-Based Treatment (FBT) for anorexia nervosa. She works collaboratively with children and caregivers to address food avoidance, sensory sensitivities, food-related anxiety, limited food variety, rigidity and other barriers to eating while supporting families through the recovery process.

Ann also has a special interest in working with athletes experiencing disordered eating and body image concerns. She understands the unique pressures surrounding nutrition, performance, body image and athletic identity and helps young athletes develop a healthier relationship with food and their bodies while continuing to pursue the activities they value.

Her approach is strengths-based, compassionate and individualized. Ann draws from trauma-informed care, cognitive-behavioral techniques, motivational interviewing and compassionate applied behavior analysis to help clients build coping skills, increase flexibility, strengthen self-esteem and work toward meaningful change.

Ann works with clients of all ages, with a particular focus on children, adolescents and families. She accepts Wellmark BCBS plans. Her self-pay rate is $195 for an intake session and $185 for subsequent sessions, with limited sliding scale availability.
